Learn and lunch - new for 2011

Lunch with a difference! Learn while you watch your lunch being prepared, in the relaxed and informal surroundings of your own home. Try out new techniques yourselves.


You choose the menu (or discuss options with me), I bring all the ingredients and, with your friends around, enjoy the morning, learning and getting useful tips to further your cookery skills.
  • Arrive 10am for coffee and home-made biscuits
  • Watch the demonstration of your lunch being prepared and presented - try things out yourselves too
  • Recipes are included for all the dishes prepared - menus will include (at least) starter or canapes, main course with vegetables then pudding
  • Time schedules included for each menu
  • A variety of menus to choose from
  • Plenty of time for questions along the way
  • Helpful tips and advice given during the morning
  • Washing up, clearing the kitchen all included
  • Wine tasting can be arranged as an extra
Prices - up to four people £180 including all ingredients, morning coffee, wine with lunch, recipes and VAT. Up to two additional guests at £40 each.

Here's an account from one of my first learn and lunch sessions:
"We were visiting friends in Cornwall and they suggested getting Jane to come for a Learn and Lunch. Jane asked us for some ideas of things we'd like to cook and she built a three course menu out of this. At 10am Jane arrived with all the ingredients, recipe folders, even bottles of wine, coffee and her own home baked cookies. Over the next 3 hours we had a wonderful time watching, discussing and joining in with making everything from bread rolls and cheese sablés through twice baked soufflés and fish with all the trimmings to the profiterole pièce de résistance.

As well as learning how to make new dishes and improving our skills and techniques, we picked up so many tips about timing and presentation - so that by 1 o'clock we were ready to sit down together and enjoy a delicious and plentiful meal.

Two of us consider ourselves pretty good cooks, two are not so proficient: but we all had fun and learned so much. And all for the price of a routine restaurant lunch! Wonderful, a real theatrical performance, and I cannot wait to try the whole meal out on my friends."
